Hillel's Impact

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to give something back, show my love, and support for Oregon Hillel.  One of the most phenomenal, life changing experiences that gave me a new found happiness and joy being a Jew surrounded by so many brothers and sisters. It was an awe inspiring experience that gives me such a special feeling when I look back at the discovery of my roots, culture, and awareness.  Hillel gave me a village, a foundation of people with the same spiritual practices as myself that grounded me as a Jew. I am touched that you have given me the opportunity to give something back."

Josh Kroot
Class of 1992

"Unfortunately, I did not have a Hillel experience in college. I was not exposed to the “power” of Hillel until I saw UO alumni while serving on the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland Allocations Committee.  It was immediately apparent to me that an investment by the Jewish community in the Hillel experience is one that will pay huge dividends for many years to come."

Jeff Nudelman
Class of 1983

“Oregon Hillel helped reinforce my Jewish identity and is a major reason I am involved with Jewish life today in Portland.”

Josh Frankel
Class of 2000

"My relationship to the University of Oregon Jewish community and to Hillel helped me shape my Jewish identity and get me to where I am today, living in Israel and serving in the Israel Defense Forces."

Robert Blumenfeld
Class of 2011

Oregon Hillel is truly becoming a Jewish Home Away From Home for the 1,600 Jewish students that call the U of O home! Whether it is our weekly FREE Shabbat services & home cooked dinner that welcome over 100 students to create community and celebrate Shabbat together, or the 20 student volunteers helping tzekdek initiatives, to the 23 students going to Israel for the first time on Birthright Israel, or the hundreds of bowls of Matzo Ball Soup to students delivered to students for FREE, or one of the many weekly programs that personally touch hundreds of students personally, we have something for everyone at Oregon Hillel. For some of you this is what Jewish campus life was like when you were on campus, and for others these opportunities were not even imaginable.

There are no membership dues to join Hillel; in fact, every student is a member of the Jewish community from the very moment he/she set foot on campus. Your investment in the Jewish student community through your support of the Oregon Hillel Alumni Campaign ensures that we can provide a wide range of services & programs for our students. Your support also helps to maintain our beautiful house on Hilyard, where students hang out, study and attend free weekly Shabbat services and dinners.

All of our programs and services are provided without financial support from the university. This means that Oregon Hillel is responsible for raising 100% of our annual budget from Federation, private contributions from alumni, parents, foundations, and friends such as you. I hope you will consider supporting Oregon Hillel at a level that is comfortable to you-every gift counts! Your investment is critical to building and sustaining our dynamic programs to achieve a vibrant and inclusive Jewish campus life. I invite you to contact me personally to find out more about Oregon Hillel's programs, vision, or to see how you can help.

Thank you for your consideration and GO DUCKS!
